Death Valley Junction & Opera House     Scotty's Castle

At one time you could hear the sounds of a train coming down the tracks, children playing by the school and laughter and conversation during gatherings at Corkhill Community Hall in Death Valley Junction. When Marta Becket discovered the town in the '60's, it more resembled a scene from the Twilight Zone with its buildings abandoned and in disrepair. But as she peeked into the dimness and desolation of Corkhill Hall she saw her destiny. She was on that stage in her beautiful costumes and painted sets performing for an audience. In 1968 her dream became a reality and she opened her show to an audience of 12. As her audiences dwindled down to none, she continued to perform and one day decided to paint the perfect audience for her one-woman show. Four years later the Spanish Royal Court graced the back of the Opera House. For over 36 years Marta has performed for her public, both real and imagined. Documentaries have been made about her and countless articles written about her and the dream she brought to life at Death Valley Junction. In 1983 Tom Willett, who had been working behind the scenes, joined Marta on the stage. Marta saw his potential as a great comedian and, voila, a star was born. Together they dazzle audiences on Saturday evenings from mid-October to mid-May.
