Sunrise & Sunset     Salt Flat     Plants & Animals
Sand Dunes     Canyons

Whether you like awe-inspiring scenic photographs or getting that rare shot of a bighorn sheep, you will find numerous locations throughout Death Valley to while away the hours with a camera.

Sunrise & Sunset
Some of the most spectacular views of Death Valley occur at sunrise or sunset. Suggested touring stops for sunrises are Dante's View, Zabriskie Point, and the sand dunes. Sunset locations are the Badwater road, sand dunes, Rhyolite, and Aguereberry Point.

Salt Flat
The Death Valley salt flat is huge and diverse. What you will see at Badwater is completely different than what you will see at the Devil's Golf Course, Harmony Borax or from the West Side Road. You may find newly formed lacy crystals of salt on older formations or an intriguing array of patterns in mud cracks.

Plants & Animals
As harsh as conditions can be in the desert, it's always remarkable that so many species of plants and animals can survive the elements and make this their home. In the summer months the reptiles and amphibians are out and about while others can be seen year round. In the spring plants that looked pretty dead come to life in stunning varieties of green and multi-hued flowers..

Sand Dunes
The sand dunes found in Death Valley lure you into their world with soft shapes and dramatic shadows. Whether you visit them morning or night, winter or spring, you will find fresh scenes created by Mother Nature. The mesquite bushes provide homes for little creatures like kangaroo rats that burrow under them to be away from predators. The antlion makes its cone-shaped death trap in the sand and lies in wait for ants to fall into it. In the spring and summer months sidewinders make their wavy way across the dunes leaving tracks behind. Lizards scurry from one bush to another across the hot sand with their tails marking their passage. The images they leave are a photographers delight, rich in texture and shading.

Canyons
The Canyons in Death Valley and Tecopa will captivate you with their silent invitation to explore them intimately. Through rippled, rainbow walls they twist and turn and beckon you further into their depths. This slot canyon is found in the Amargosa Canyon off of China Ranch in Tecopa.
