Activities
- Birdwatching
From wintertime stopovers to year round
residents, the bird population of our area is of great interest to the novice
and advanced birdwatcher. Listed below are some favorite viewing areas found
in Tecopa and Death Valley. Birding is also good in Shoshone in the wetland areas
outside of town, at Saratoga Springs, and in the backcountry around springs and
creeks.
Furnace
Creek Ranch
In the past some exciting sightings have been made at both
the stable area in the back of the ranch complex and in the date grove by the
golf course. |
Salt
Creek
Anywhere you find water is a good spot for birding. The water
at Salt Creek attracts numerous birds during the winter months. |
Scotty's
Castle
In the northern part of Death Valley, Grapevine Canyon is
a watering spot that attracts birds and wildlife. Bessie's pool at the Castle
is one such location. |
Furnace
Creek Visitors Center
Everyone loves to see roadrunners and this is one of the
best places in the Park to observe one. |
Grimshaw
Lake in Tecopa
This easy-to-find spot in Tecopa is a favorite stopping place
for waterfowl and wildlife viewing. When you turn in to Tecopa from 127, the
viewing area of Grimshaw Lake is between the resort area and the residential
area of the town on your right. |
